If someone tells you that this movie is a heartwarming, family-fun movie for all ages, they are extremely, extremely wrong. This movie is the total opposite of the description given above. The first 20 minutes may give you some laughs, especially the beginning, but after that, the movie completely blows. This movie is utterly bad, and I would most definitely NOT recommend this to anyone. ANYONE. I'm glad I didn't see this in theaters. I was too young at it's release date anyway.
My husband and I hoped that it would be an animated film that adults could enjoy without watching it with kids. Our conclusion after 10 minutes was no, not universal enough for our tastes.
This movie is so mean-spirited towards the main kids, it's kind of uncomfortable. The dad's arguably the worst character, and addressing his bad parenting in the movie does not make him any better.
But there are a couple of interesting things to take away from this movie--
1) This 3D movie was probably done by 2D animators. Indicators of this would be the stylized set design, props, the solid colors of characters' wardrobes, and the exaggerated squash-and-stretch animation.
2) Abby Mallard is meant to look "ugly," but she's a very charming character, and her friendship with Chicken Little feels organic.
Consider this a test-run of Zootopia, with a little more cartoon antics. It's a clever take on the classic tale, but good lord, the animation has not aged well. The credits musical number is by far the best part of the movie.
My 5-year old granddaughter watched 3 different versions of Chicken Little & liked this Disney version the best. In fact, she loved it so much that she asked me to buy her a copy of her own. I highly recommend it!
So I have to give this a 5/5, because it is yet again another Disney movie that Disney forgot. The overall message was great, and the movie was filled with some great humor and hilarious scenes along with famous Don Knotts (Though he was a side character in this movie).
The ending felt slapped on, like it didn't have anything to do with the rest of the movie.
This unfortunate piece of work tries very hard to be funny, but just ends up being horribly insulting.
Animation is great - good moral story about trust and gaining trust.
