When I first saw this movie way back when it was released in the theatres, I had no idea who Richie Valens was. Thanks to this film, I learned a lot. Lou Diamond Phillips was wonderful as Richie, and Easi Morales is great as his brother. This is one of the best biography movies I've seen. Great music, acting and even though the ending is predictable (sadly..), I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Formulaic, but spirited biopic of Chicano rocker RItchie Valens, whose career was cut short when he died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. He was only 17. Lou Diamond Phillips, in his debut, is an energetic Valens, even if he's better looking than the real guy. We hit the typical biopic notes, but the music is good and there's more emphasis on family (his troubled brother, his supportive mother) than in many music movies. His girlfriend is squaresville. Brian Setzer appears as Eddie Cochrane and Marshall Crenshaw as Buddy Holly. Music by Los Lobos. Also check out "The Buddy Holly Story," "Sweet Dreams," and "Great Balls of Fire."
I think la Bamba is a exciting movie and well the plane crash of 1959 is the sad part but I think that Ritchie Valens was the best American Mexican rock and roll star well miss you ritchie
