This black neo-noir comedy didn't get a lot of attention, perhaps because it felt like it should have come out in the 90s, where it would've fit in with movies like "Fargo" and "A Simple Plan." It feels a little familiar, but it's well done and will appeal to fans of those above-mentioned films. John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton, and Connie Nielsen head a fine cast, which also includes Oliver Platt and Randy Quaid (incidentally, both Thornton and Platt were recently in the series "Fargo"). Harold Ramis, better known for comedies like "Groundhog Day" and "Caddyshack," adeptly balances the dark comedy with the violence. The ending is a little unsure and the DVD includes several alternates.

This was an interesting neo-noir-like black comedy/heist movie. Entertaining. Good pacing. Memorable characters. Well written and acted. Kept my attention and kept me guessing. Quite a few scenes take place in strip clubs, so be wary of nudity and a couple scenes of graphic violence.

Excellent and darkly comedic modern noir that demonstrates the versatility of its main actors. A bittersweet corrective to more sugary Christmas movie fare.

Excellent dramedy set on Christmas Eve. Directed by seasoned comic veteran Harold Ramis (Stripes, Groundhog Day, Caddyshack, etc.). Thornton and Cusack worked well together as partners in crime, and Oliver Platt was a convincing and hilarious drunk. Danish beauty Connie Nielsen is perfect as the seductive and calculating femme fatale. Great script -- twists around every corner. An altogether fun (& funny) neo-noir. (Check out the outtake w/ Billy Bob Thornton doing a 'Sling Blade' impression) FIVE STARS.

good crime drama similar to Fargo but different enough that you don't actually get the feeling you've seen it before. dry humor mostly.

Charlie (John Cusack) and Vic (Billy Bob Thornton) decide to commit the perfect crime and steal $2 million from their Kansas City mob boss. Charlie is the mob's lawyer in Kansas and that includes overseeing the operation of several strip clubs in Wichita. After the dynamic duo steal the money the movie becomes a thriller as well as a comedy of errors. Both a hitman and the mob boss come looking for Charlie and Vic. Who eventually ends up with the money keeps one guessing until the end.

Fairly entertaining about crooks double-crossing each other.

I consider this to be John Cusack's best movie, and perfectly showcases his ability to cover both comedy and drama..

John Cusack proves that he can master noir. Billy Bob Thornton and Randy Quaid show their skills here too. Very good cinematography and a good script.

I agree, this is a dark comedy/ sick humor but I found it hilarious. Good storyline that kept you wondering just how it would end.
