Subtleties of this story will be difficult to follow without a Catholic culture background. I loved the stories and was enchanted with authors style of "implication". So much is left to the reader to intuit what happens to characters after major events. After this era how can one still cling to organized religion for direction in life.

I wasn't a fan of this novel, I found I didn't feel a connection to the characters and skimmed through the second half of the book just to finish it.

I found this book a little bit choppy in parts, more like a collection of short stories than a novel, but I loved the continuing theme of the wind used throughout Mary's story and wished it had been employed elsewhere in the book as well. Overall, I found this book an interesting reading exercise.

There is a certain charm in the story and the characters. They are not mad eout to be beautiful, their flaws are shown. I like this - it's different from most novel sin this way. But on the down side, I found the sentences hard to read - I often re-read them, stumbled over them. The language to me wasn't as natural as in many other books are.
