Jewish-American journalist, Daniel Pearl was kidnapped in Pakistan in January of 2002. The violent act became an international scandal as the group that claimed responsibility for the crime demanded the liberation of prisoners from the American detainee prison in Guantanamo Bay, in Cuba. The American government does not give in to the terrorists' demands. Mariane travels to Pakistan and is alone, searching for the most important person in her life. Knowing the odds are against her, holding on to hope becomes all the more complicated when she is surrounded by a chaos that is absolutely inescapable. Yet still, Mariane must remain calm. After all, she is the heart of this operation.

What a tragedy in 2002. Was headline news.

This movie is OK. For me, the most interesting part of the movie was how much effort the Pakistan government put into the search for him. Other than that not really that exciting since we already know the outcome.

A gripping and nightmarish story that manages to convey the endless confusion and psychological stresses of a woman, 5 months pregnant, whose husband is kidnapped in a teeming, and very foreign, city.

Enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would. Since I didn't know if I would enjoy this movie, I watched the Special Features section about the making of this movie beforehand. This gave me a sense of the intimacy the director wanted in the movie, the personal contact actors had with the characters, particularly, Mariane Pearl, and their commitment telling her story well. It also made me appreciate how incredible a person she is. As a result, when I watched the movie, the intensity of the movie was balanced with warmth and loyalty between the characters (and actors themselves). Although the movie originates from a terrible act and experience, Mariane's wisdom and the actors' genuine intent makes this a movie about rising above the fray, about compassion and seeing the world at large. Highly recommended.

Its nice to see an a list actress being in films that carry a message. This is a tragic story and one that certainly needs to be told. Unfortunately, all that does not change the fact that this is not a very good movie.

VERY SAD REALITY,,, This extraordinary film, PROVES that the PRIMARY FIRST & ULTIMATE victims of ANY & EVERY WAR are the TRUTH & the unarmed defenseless civilians, who have nothing to do with WAR, just like Journalist Daniel Pearl, who ended up MISSING, being set up, entangled in the web of deceit & deception, kidnapped & brutally murdered to the tormenting horror of his pregnant wife & his family.

The EVER impressive Angelina Jolie makes the film, EXTRAORDINARILY CAPTIVATING.

the fact that it was dedicated to their son could have bumped it up another notch.
