From armoring the windows with LP covers to protect the house from neurotic songbirds to the awkwardness of having a lozenge fall from your mouth into the lap of a sleeping fellow passenger on a plane, David Sedaris uses life's most bizarre moments to reach new heights in understanding love and fear, family and strangers. Culminating in a brilliantly funny account of his venture to Tokyo in order to quit smoking, Sedaris' sixth essay collection will be avidly anticipated.

This is a series of very dry, funny anecdotes. Sedaris starts on one topic, but then blindsides you with something only marginally related to the original story. It feels fresh, with a touch of that Kurt Vonnegut charm on the side.

This isn't my favorite Sedaris book, but his witty humor always makes me laugh. This audiobook was good company on a very long flight across the Pacific.

The book began with a very graphic description of a woman who was full of worms. The author then described a time when his pubic hair was full of lice.
That was enough for me. What a horrible book.

Took it on my drive to Montreal. Had a driveway moment when I arrived.
My friends thought I was crying in my car... I was laughing!

Sedaris has an off-the-cuff humor style. I found this book hilarious and liked the memoir style more than his essays.

Consistently great, Sedaris does it again with this group of essays encompassing his skillful wit, humor, and emotion. It is such a joy to hear Sedaris read his own work, as he animates the text like no other, making one feel as if he is telling the story just for you. Definitely recommend.

"Sometimes the sins you haven't committed are all you have to hold on to. If you're really desperate, you might need to grope, saying, for example, 'I've never killed anyone with a hammer' or 'I've never stolen from anyone who didn't deserve it.'"
