We live in complicated, dangerous times. They are also hyper-technical times. As citizens who will elect future presidents of the most powerful and influential country in the world, we need to know--truly understand, not just rely on television's talking heads--if Iran's nascent nuclear capability is a genuine threat to the West, if biochemical weapons are likely to be developed by terrorists, if there are viable alternatives to fossil fuels that should be nurtured and supported by the government, if nuclear power should be encouraged, and if global warming is actually happening. This book is written in everyday, nontechnical language on the science behind the concerns that our nation faces in the immediate future. Even active readers of serious journalism will be surprised by the lessons that the book contains. It is "must-have" information for all presidents--and citizens--of the twenty-first century.

An interesting look at the science of nuclear power, nuclear weapons, terrorism, space, energy and global warming. Published in 2008 so some of the book is out of date though the big picture ideas are still very relevant. Not perfect but offers some good facts on the topics and should be read to approach the subjects in a more objective manor. Worth reading if you are interested.

"I didn't finish this, but when I was reading it; I heard President Obama say, "He is going to be President"! That gives hope to my ambition of finishing it, maybe I'll check it out again.

Very informational book by an opinionated author.

The back cover review says that a more appropriate title would be "Physics for Useful Citizens"...that's actually a good suggestion.

This is one of those books you wish everyone would read so that discussions about important issues would be more informed and productive rather than an exchange of ideological soundbites.
