Pietro has just lost his wife, and he is left alone with their young daughter. He promises the girl that he will wait for her in the car when she returns to school for the first time, but then his temporary offer turns into habit. Now Pietro spends his days in his car, watching the world around him and grieving in his own way.

To say it is startling to see a character played by Nanni Moretti in a graphic sex scene would be an understatement. Here, his Pietro is not as nebbishy as his usual characters and despite having a good job somehow manages to spend weeks in a park across from his daughter's school reading newspapers, being hugged by friends, family and colleagues and eating lunch at a nearby cafe. His sister-in-law is mentally unstable and his brother is played by an actor who couldn't possibly be more different from Pietro. A young woman who walks a dog in the park is played by the director's young girlfriend so you can bet her role is superfluous but the movie seems to suggest that she could be a way out of Pietro's oddly expressed grief. I imagine that many viewers will find it hard to feel much for Pietro who, despite being Italian, is not emotive. There is fair amount of fainting if you like that sort of thing.
