Tracy Chapman's debut album is brilliant from start to finish. Crossroads, her follow-up, is also excellent.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio (in 1964) - Believe it, or not - When singer, songwriter, Tracy Chapman (23 at the time) initially made attempts to produce her first album back in 1987, her efforts were met with considerable resistance from record companies who clearly showed very little interest in her musical direction.
But, as the story goes - Once Chapman's self-titled album was released on the charts in 1988 (thanks to Bob Krasnow from Elektra Records), it was a solid, #1 hit that, to date, has sold over 20 million copies, worldwide.
A 4-time Grammy Award winner - Tracy Chapman's debut album contains 11 tracks in all. Chapman's songs (which fit into the musical genre of folk-rock) contain lyrics that are based on her personal support of certain political and social causes.
2 of my very favourite tunes are - Fast Car and Baby, Can I Hold You (Watch video).
This her debut was her best...
