I exercised my "sitting through a very boring movie" muscles. Maybe if this was in blu ray the visuals would have been nicer, like."Trip to Italy"2014, another boring movie.

Delightful, moving, thoughtful, gentle, quirky, unconventional look at humanity, in the very unique circumstance of the election of a pope. I loved it. Refreshing to see a movie that is about human beings, not franchise-selling, gun-carrying caricatures, Hard to imagine how it could offend anyone, of any religion, or of no religion.

I had high hopes for this film, but it was a dud. Billed as a comedy, it had a few smile-worthy moments, but no laughs. Some pretty scenes, but not enough to make this one worth a recommendation.

True, the movie is not a comedy in the typical sense and maybe not even in any sense. It was, for me, an eye-opening and even shocking exploration in leadership. Although, the exploration did not come through for me until the very end; the movie does build quite slowly, but that is just part of the movie's rhythm. Keep your ears open for a fantastic performance by Mercedes Sosa of Todo Cambia, and in hindsight, keep in mind the foreshadowing which this song presents.

Can this film even really be considered a comedy? The sight of cardinals in full regalia playing volleyball provoked mild guffaws, but the film's "shocking" ending fell completely flat. Comedies are usually are their least enjoyable (for me) when the ultimate joke is on the audience. Disappointing, at best.

This movie started out so well ... comically all the Cardinals voting for the next Pope, with each praying that they will not be picked! But, sadly the movie fizzles ... and I fell asleep through most of the second half.

Skip It – We Have a Pope (2011) [Foreign – Italian] 102 min. There’s nothing wrong with highlighting the fact that the Pope and cardinals that lead the Catholic Church in issues of faith are portrayed as human with all the frailties of humanity but to portray them as a bunch of relics that are easily duped is insulting. The story explores the ensuing ramifications if the newly elected Pope decided not to assume the position - fair enough speculative query to an institution that was formed by Christ Jesus Himself. The other concern I had with the film is the clear suggestion that the leaders of the Catholic Church are nothing more than actors playing a part for the benefit of the faithful – I don’t think so. With all the reservations shown above, the film itself is slightly better than a bore.

This film was definitely not what I was expecting. Instead of a more humorous look at the pomp and fair of the Vatican, the film tries to deal with not a question of faith, but a question of the institution itself, and the ultimate truth between oneself and God.
