This is a 2010 British documentary directed by Asif Kapadia.
The film depicts the life and death of Brazilian motor-racing champion Ayrton Senna, focusing on his racing career in Formula One---from his debut in the 1984 Brazilian Grand Prix to his death in an accident at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, with particular emphasis on his rivalry with fellow driver Alain Prost.
It relies primarily on archive racetrack footage and home video clips provided by the Senna family.
Although the quality of screen images appears quite poor, the film would give you heart-pounding thrills as well as profoundly heartbreaking emotions.

Terrific documentary! A sympathetic glimpse of the man and his life. Everyone really ought to watch this film.

Interesting, sort of. The problem lies in the film maker's misguided decision to restrict themselves archival footage as if that would render Sienna's portrait more "truthful" -- but ends up merely subjecting the viewer to 90 minutes of grainy racing footage, with no dramatic arc. It's like watching a video game with no controls. Since our look at Senna himself is confined to more grainy footage -- interviews -- we have only a paper-thin notion of who he really was. So, no character development to speak up and a flimsy dramatic arc that goes nowhere.

My only complaint about this film is the subtitles are way too small and trying to read them takes away from the story. Otherwise a very good film, even for someone who knows nothing about Formula One.

If you don't like cars or racing, you might find it slow, but it is a great documentary, just as entertaining as the Formula One movie Rush.

This is an example of the best kind of documentaries - even if you don't have a particular knowledge or interest in the subject, it MAKES you interested. Obviously a positive approach to the man, given the cooperation of his family, but it's not a hagiography. Fascinating.

An amazing film! You do not have to be a fan of F1 to feel the greatness of this amazing Man that I knew nothing about prior to my viewing of this film. A myriad of themes run through this film.

This may have been interesting if I cared at all about racing or ego but the slavish devotion of the fans and the filmmakers just seemed...out of proportion and a bit slow. I know it got great reviews but I personally would have probably enjoyed sitcom reruns more.

You do not need to be a racing fan to enjoy this story of the desire to win. Good documentary film that captures the spirit of Senna and his drive to please God by pushing his abilities on the track to the outside edge.

I'm not a fan of Formula One race car driving, but I found this film captivating. All sports and the athlete's struggles and achievements within the game reflect the challenges of life and this is what the film portrays. Senna comes across as a very complex and intriguing person, and it is very interesting to watch his reactions to the events unfolding on this sport stage. It is completely drawn from real life film footage and commentary, and plays more like a movie with a leading actor than a documentary.
