House of Dark Shadows, based on the very popular TV Gothic soap opera, follows the afterlife of Barnabas Collins. Recently unleashed from his coffin by a local drunk, the vampire goes on a killing spree, while at the same time charming his present day family members. In the process he meets local girl Maggie Evans and notices that she looks exactly like his deceased fiance Josette. Barnabas assumes that she is the reincarnation of Josette, and plans to make her his unholy bride for eternity.

This vampire movie has characters from the 1970's soap opera Dark Shadows. Like Supernatural, it had mystical creatures. A ancient vampire is awaken by a grave robbing just fired employee of the Collins family. Later that week, a distant relative Barnabas Collins arrives from England. He is the doppelganger of their ancestor Barnabas. The Collins welcome Barnabas, and he is invited to the fancy dress party, and is allowed to live in and renovate the old Collins mansion they no longer live in. Barnabas meets Maggie the nanny at the party and she is a dead ringer for his dead fiancée Josette. His obsession with her is dangerous to anyone who stands in his way. I enjoy watching this movie every Halloween. Not too gory for younger horror fans.

Probably a scary Halloween Vampire story when the movie was aired in 1970. A far superior version is the updated 2012 version with Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins:

Professor Stokes: If I told the police that the creature they're looking for lives by night, and sleeps in a coffin by day... they might question my sanity.
Carolyn: We were all very surprised that you've decided to settle in Collinsport.
Barnabas Collins: When you know me better, you won't be.
