Pina Bausch was a most remarkable choreographer. If you're looking for the Nutcracker, you are barking up the wrong tree. The productions are at the same time odd, surprising, beautiful, poignant. Wim Wenders does an amazing job of capturing the dances. I took it all for granted when I watched the film, but when I watched the included "making of" DVD, I saw all the attention to detail and modern film equipment needed. I especially liked what are referred to as "The Solos" in the film. They consist of one or two dancers dancing outside in the city or other outside locations with captivating backdrops. The intense movements accompanied by intense music in unusual locations offer something entirely original and magnificent.
