I thought Joan and Fred made a cute couple.. This movie is very Hitchcock-esque. It may not be as good as Hitchcock's for some, but I found it thoroughly entertaining. Witty and intriguing. Pretty good action and fight scenes. I wasn't always sure what direction it was headed, which I like!

In the late 1930s a young married couple is approached by the English secret service and asked to make contact with spies while on their honeymoon in Germany and Austria. The couple (Joan Crawford and Fred MacMurray) are American, and he is a professor at Oxford. They are selected because they appear to be "above suspicion." An entertaining spy story based on a book by Helen MacInnes (one of my favorite authors).

Fred MacMurray and Joan Crawford as newlywed spies? Yes, it somehow works in this 1943 film. Set in 1939, the story is witty, fun but also deeply serious about conditions in Europe at that time. Basil Rathbone, Conrad Veidt and Reginald Owen provide a rich supporting cast. I thought Conrad Veidt (Casablanca), in his last film, stole every scene in which he appeared. He's dapper, urbane, mysterious and a great dancer!
