This is another book in the detective Patrick Hedstrom series. I like Camilla Lackberg's writing style: concise, compassionate, humorous, and filled with good character development. I especially enjoy Patrick's wife, Erica, and their baby, Maja.

Patrick and Erica's wedding date is imminent and Erica is busy trying to plan the details while also helping her sister, Anna, after the terrible tragedy she recently endured. Meanwhile, in their town of Fjallbacka, a reality TV show starts filming and one of the cast members is murdered. Just prior to this, another woman is also killed in a car accident - but autopsy details suggest murder could have been the cause of death, not the car accident. Patrick is kept busy trying to juggle the investigation into both murders and deal with the swarm of publicity from the press after the reality show cast member's murder.

I actually had a good idea what the outcome was in this story when I was only half way through. It is a testament to Camilla Lackberg's writing that I decided to soldier on. Her novels are entertaining and well-written but they will not linger with you after you have read them.

Paperback edition of the book released as The Gallows Bird in hardcover. (Good to know if you're waiting for a hold.)

One of my favorites by Lackberg so far. All the characters are out of their respective funks and taking part in the action whether it be solving crime or planning a wedding. A well-realized plot that draws from the past and present. Ends with some forshadowing for her next in the series. I wish it didn't take so long for them to get published here. We're about three books behind.
