The author's hold that technology is enabling the emerging of a virtual society in parallel with that of the normal physical society. Furthermore, they posit that each society constrains the other limiting the worst aspects of each. The technology that is underlying this change is the smart phone which is relatively inexpensive, widespread, and contains tools to enable local innovation. The book provides several interesting anecdotes though not enough to inspire. There are also lots of buzz words sufficient to provide a sheen of glibness to the book which I'm sure was not the intent.
