Wiesner masterfully draws readers into a world where a household cat, Mr. Wuffles, meets a spaceship full of aliens. Alternating between full-page paintings and comic-book style frames, readers learn how the extraterrestrials team up with the local insects, each of whom speak their own invented language of symbols, to repair their broken spaceship and foil the fearsome Mr. Wuffles. The mark the alien culture leaves on the insects is significant. Readers will enjoy seeing the world from a many different points of view: the cat, the aliens, the insects, the human owner.

Mr. Wuffles is a cat. A cat who seems uninterested in all the toys bought for him. But when he discovers a new toy that’s seemingly shown up on its own, he’s *very* interested in that. And the tiny alien creatures inside the “toy” are not happy about it. Will they be able to escape?

This is a nearly wordless picture book, which I sometimes struggle with “reading” to my kiddo, but there’s so much going on here and the panels flow really well from one to the next. We had a great time with it.

The story is too complex for very young children, but it's an imaginative and funny concept. I would consider this more like a short graphic novel for elementary-age children through adults.

Can you read alien? Decipher the story by "reading" the strange language in word balloons and the imaginative drawings by the author/illustrator.

In this unique and humorous story, aliens come to earth but seem unaware of humans as they engage with a cat and insects.

Never has a feline been as terrifying as Mr. Wuffles. In truth, he really is just a curious housecat with a ton of playthings. The one toy that he is most interested in was not bought at the pet store. That is because it is not a toy at all.

In this wordless book by Wiesner, the main character is a cat named Mr. Wuffles (poor guy). He refuses to play with any of the toys his owner buys for him. But when a toy sized alien ship lands in his space, he takes an interest. Unfortunately, he damages the ship causing the aliens to disembark for repairs. They find allies among the bugs under the furniture who help the aliens regain their ship and fly home.

Wiesner's intelligence and humor show throughout this book. The illustrations are fascinating and created in a manner that tells the story without words. The use of aliens is unique.

This book is advertized for grade preschool-3. However, as with most of Wiesners books, the content is at a higher maturity level that can be understood or enjoyed for the younger children. I think grades 2-5 would be more appropriate.

Very imaginative children's book. I love the drawings and the expressions on Mr. Wuffles's face.
