Opinion

From Library Staff

The truth can be chilling, and some chilling aspects are desirable, especially concerning climate. This is not a glacially paced documentary. Magnificent time-lapse photography documents a bold project by a former climate change skeptic.

A moving piece of music by Josh Ralph featuring violinist Joshua Bell and actress and singer Scarlett Ingrid Johansson is the reason I took this documentary home. The interesting phenomenon of photographing glaciers over a 3 year time period was captivating and revealing. Award winning 2014 News and Documentary Emmy® award for Outstanding Nature Programming. https://chasingice.com/about-the-film/synopsis/

Seeing this documentary was made in 2012, and most of the events that were recorded was from 2008 -2012 is very scary. If it was that bad then, I think we have already passed the point of no return. We are already seeing extreme storms and issues all around the globe, just like the documentary said.

While this documentary is sometimes clunky in its execution, it is an overall thing of beauty. I found splendor, even in the destruction of our glaciers. Well worth watching.

There is very little footage of glaciers melting, and it's more of a movie about the people and process of filming the glaciers.

Beautiful photos, fantastic video, amazing story of James Balog's quest to photo document glacier recession. Articulate and compelling. Highly recommended. A stake in the heart of the climate change deniers.

Fascinating, frightening. Crazy, cool. Stunning visuals, beautiful and clearly a reality check for global warming. The final calving footage is amazing.
