"Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself... Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Summoned to Evelyn's Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn's life unfolds, revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love, Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn's story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique's own in tragic and irreversible ways."-- Dust jacket.

There is one quote that will really give you a small glimpse into this novel. "I spent half of my time loving her and the other half hiding how much I loved her." Take your guesses on this novel, I guarantee you whatever you guess will be of no comparison for this drama-filled story. Taylor Jenkins Reid writes in a way that captures the reader into the world and soul of the characters. I found myself questioning if Evelyn Hugo was fictional or not! If you loved 1960's Breakfast at Tiffany's, I encourage you to pick this book up for yourself. Who knew Hollywood was THIS rough?

A clever story about the choices and sacrifice that living a public life requires.

I enjoyed THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO more than I expected to. The descriptions describing it as a "Soap Opera" are not at all accurate. Instead it is the story of one extraordinary woman's life, lived in the spotlight.

Evelyn's story is told to a young writer, Monique, whose own story intersects with Evelyn's in clever and unexpected ways. Evelyn's ambition and beauty got her everything she ever wanted. It also cost her years of hiding her heritage and and her very essence frombthe world.

The husband's all played a role in furthering Evelyn's stardom and helping her hide her secrets.

It is an interesting book, well written and wil appeal to contemporary fiction lovers and those whi like strong women and a little romance.

I loved hearing all the juicy details of Evelyn Hugo’s 7 husbands...and I particularly loved reading about the greatest love of her life. I like TJR’s style and will read more of hers. I liked this one even better than Daisy Jones and the Six.

Who is the love of Evelyn Hugo's life? The answer to that question and more is unraveled through eight decades of stories with this Hollywood starlet. Jumping between present-day and her fascinating past, the relationships and storytelling are exceptionally interwoven.

It is a rare book that I read in a single sitting. I read this book in eight hours. It lives up to all of the hype--it is spectacular. Evelyn's story is believable in every detail; I feel like I lived alongside her as she told her story which broke my heart with its complexity and depth. Evelyn was a complicated woman, with a complex past and struggle. She made hard choices with aplomb, and without regret.
This novel didn't even feel like a book; I wasn't thinking about the author at all. I was swallowed whole by Evelyn and Monique's story lines. This novel was magic.

I don't know what expectations I had going into this book, other than it would be like reading gossip magazines and getting an insider look at the glam life of Hollywood stars. I guess, on the surface, it kind of is, but it is so much more than that, and Evelyn's story has such heart to it.

This book is crude. It shows the ugly and sordid side of what some actors and actresses will do to become a famous Hollywood celebrity. It focuses on the woman, Evelyn Hugo and her ambitions and actions to obtain stardom, which, she eventually realizes is very shallow and meaningless. She finds the true meaning of love and compassion in her relationship with fellow actress, Celia St. James. Yet to sustain her career in Hollywood and leave her reputation untarnished, she uses people along the way.
I didn’t care for the character Evelyn. Some people would say she is a spunky feminist, but I saw her as a self-centered and insensitive woman who didn’t care whose toes she stepped on to ensure a comfortable life for herself.

This author has the amazing ability to make books compulsively readable, and once I started this book I couldn't stop. Bringing you through the hidden parts of old Hollywood, this book left me with lots of complicated emotions, and a lasting impression.

People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me'- that's intimacy.

When u dig just the tiniest bit beneath the surface, everyone’s love life is original& interesting &nuanced& defies any easy definition.
Author to husband-thank u for understanding why bk so NB to me &4 being so into it. For being the kind of man who encourages me to shout louder, dream bigger, & take less shit. Thx for never making me feel i should make myself smaller to make someone else feel better. Our daughter’s growing up w a father who’ll stick by her side no matter who she is, & will show her how she should expect to be treated by modelling it for her. Evelyn nor I had that, she will, because of you.
