For those looking for a practical follow-up to this book, Dan Siegel has a book called "No Drama Discipline" that was published just last year. It is available from the library in a paperbook and ebook format.

A wonderful book that teaches a lot of science but makes it accessable with lots of short stories and descriptions in action. Like the previous poster said, it doesn't offer overt advice with regards to parenting which is why I feel it should be followed by "Raising our children, Raising ourselves" which neatly fills the gap and offers lots of useful parenting stratagies and ideas that tie in perfectly with Parenting from the Inside Out.

I like the philosophy introduced in this book: tend to your own personal issues first in order to become a better parent for your children. I think this may be one of the fundamental parenting book that anyone should read. But this book is leaning more theoretical than practical. It won't tell you how to discipline your child, etc, but rather introduces principles of parenting and self-care that any good parent should possess.

A thought-provoking and informative work.
