I actually liked the movie! I really loved the sarcastic lines throughout the movie The only thing that bothered me was how rushed it felt compared to the first book.

I was super excited for this movie, because I LOVED the books. However, I became increasingly disappointed as the movie went on. The casting was pretty awful, I especially could not believe the actress who played Rose, she just wasn't convincing in the role - a role that's supposed to be extremely confident and snarky and she just couldn't pull it off. I also hated how this movie was sent out as a goofy teen movie, when the books are actually pretty dark and gritty. I think that's why the film franchise failed, and the series was unable to continue, which is just really sad.. Maybe they'll get a TV show gig.. hey, it worked for Mortal Instruments, didn't it?

It's a bummer that more people didn’t see this movie. This is a silly and fun high school story that I enjoyed way more than I expected. Natalie is the best. It also has things like girls having other girls’ backs and sass and cute crushes and flaming dogs (that happened, right? I may be misremembering?) and mean girls getting their comeuppance and strangely unattractive love interests and NATALIE.

It wasn’t a mind-blowing cinematic masterpiece but it was a fairly witty and faithful book adaptation. And movies about teen girls often get unfairly picked apart, so maybe take that into consideration when reading some of the reviews.

Possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen! Definitely the worst book>movie adaptation I've ever had the misfortune to watch, actually worse than the travesty that City of Bones was. Thank goodness I didn't pay to see it at the cinemas, I would have felt completely ripped off.

The script is boring. The packaging = Mimic Harry Potter + heavy makeup + poor sexy stuff. But, not even close to Harry Potter. Bad makeup.

Cotton candy high school cliques only with young vampires. Larger stratification of vampire classes add to the confusion and angst. Only thing missing in this retelling of this vampire story is that it doesn't happen in some vampire middle earth. Royal vampires have problems just like everyone else.

It went for quirky and missed the mark, but not by as much as it could have.

I agree with "bigabalone". Harry potter mixed with twilight.

The only thing I really liked about this movie was the soundtrack. I'm guessing the book was much better, but this is the kind of thing where things like new concepts and cultures related to these vampires need to be introduced spaced out, and you need to grow to like the characters, in a way you cannot do in an hour and a half. Never read the books, but I feel like they would be much better than this, due to the pacing. Found the jokes kind of like they were trying to either be shocking or "hip", and not actually clever. The romantic sub-plot felt obvious and pressured. At one point in the movie, they made a joke about how bad Twilight was, but honestly, I thought this was worse.
