A profound book about abuse and how it can go unseen by the victim. "Bitter Melon" made me cry a lot, but it also made me reexamine how family ties could hurt people. It also introduced me to my dream college (:

Beautiful, compelling, heart-wrenching story about a sheltered Chinese-American teen struggling against her controlling mother.
