What first grabbed me about this picture books was the illustrator's style. The cover and illustrations have a graphic novel style to them. The story itself is succinct, making the illustrations a key part of the plot. Each page seems to warrant a pause.

This story touches on the historical Berlin Wall and discusses the personal impact it had. Some themes which stood out during my first and second read-throughs were the love between a child and a parent (specifically father) and the universality of love. Side note: the last page makes me melt.

A short story of the Berlin Wall and the impact it had on families when it went up. Not detailed but interesting.
