May be of mild interest to students of film technique, but otherwise completely miss-able. The dialogue is improvised, with actors given scene outlines but not scripts. The result is bland and forgettable. But, with or without scripted dialogue, the story falls flat on its own. The various relationships change dramatically, without apparent cause or sufficient motive. Felicity Jones, spectacularly mis-cast in the lead, wanders through the film in an unexplained daze, the opposite of someone attractive and desirable. Finally, some of what might be important bits of explanatory dialogue are lost in mumbled whispers, but the DVD lacks subtitles which could have helped where multiple rewinds didn't. The only noteworthy aspect of the film is the classical soundtrack, heavy on piano and cello.

A middle-aged family man, a musician, fell for a young girl the age of his daughter. We have seen this before. The only difference this time is the mutual bonding between the two seemed almost credible, thanks to the acting of the two lead actors. But you kind of can guess that the relationship could lead nowhere.

This movie tried.....but never sparked. The actress casted as wife never made the spousal relationship believable. What was going to happen to the daughter was predictable.
Only reason why I took this film out was Felicity Jones & Guy Pearce. Too bad.

In the Guy Pearce canon, this is a stand out for acting. Very closely observed version of an oft-told tale: vitality stopped up in a dead-end relationship; just waiting to be released by a stranger.

I hate to give a film a lower rating when the director is so obviously earnest and believing in their movie.

BUT - what spoiled the pleasure for me was the personality of the attractive young girl. I found her to be very prickly and if she had less looks, she would be quite ugly.

The wife who was cheated on was classically portrayed as over taxed by life and not as physically glamorous (yawn).
