Just north of the border, in the tired coastal town of Imperial Beach, California, live three generations of Yosts: surfing royalty turned society misfits. The Yosts' reign and reputation, once defined in the curl of a perfect wave, has been eroded by years of bad luck, addiction and hubris. But just as things are looking like they can't get worse, a stranger named John arrives-- and the Yosts' banal existence is lifted into something profound, miraculous and, possibly, universal.

The main family characters pale in comparison to the supporting cast who steal the show. I finished this confusing series just to enjoy the acting skills of the secondary characters. I guess if you want to be a surfer you have to be good at cursing. Think "Shameless" but with surf and sand.

I thought the first 2 episodes were OK, but the last few episodes were horribly bad. When John kept repeating the same nonsensical phrases, it got really annoying.

I saw this series maybe 5 years ago, and I still remember the extras where the writer/director was shown trying to explain to the actors and staff what John was saying, and they looked like they weren't listening, or were bored or confused.

Kind of strange but not terrible.

This was the most disgusting and vulgar series I’ve ever seen. The acting was pathetic, the story line made absolutely no sense and the language totally offensive.

Evidently the writers didn’t know any other word but FUCK, because that’s all any of them said. I skipped from scene to scene until I realized I couldn’t escape the vulgarity and I turned it off. This should have been rated R, and carry warnings for foul language.

drama - adult sit/lang. about family. deals with god, miracles and a lot of real life situations. It's fun, serious, funny, freaky and a little unbelievable at times but offers some good surfing and a feel for California.
