Redmayne as Hawking was outstanding. However the movie as a whole was not amazing. The info on Hawking’s life and relationship was interesting but I thought the movie was very much a “paint by the numbers” production and I was nearly entertained as much by reading his Wikipedia page (and more accurately informed) as I was by watching this movie. I was disappointed overall.

Sad movie and I didn't see the whole thing because the DVD skipped so I didn't see the ending. What I saw was Ok, a love story, a man with a brilliant mind, a devoted wife. Not enough to become involved in their plight.

A beautiful, beautiful science and love story. It is very easy to see why the talented Eddie Redmayne won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2014 for his incredible portrayal of Stephen Hawking. This film also features a myriad of British talent, including Felicity Jones, David Thewlis, Simon McBurney, Emily Watson, and Harry Lloyd. Redmayne and Jones (who played Stephen's wife, Jane) are magical together. Additionally, the soundtrack is gorgeous and delightful. Highly recommend this inspiring film.

An incredible film that had me captivated the entire time. This film had excellent performances and made me ponder some really deep, thought-provoking questions regarding one's life and purpose.

An excellent movie depicting an excellent life! The acting was phenomenal; the cinematography was entrancing. This was one of those movies that's so good, I didn't want to even see another movie for a while, knowing that most movies couldn't even compare to how fine this one was.

Wow, what a great performance by Eddie Redmayne as Steven Hawking. He transforms throughout the film as his M.S. takes over his whole body. Great story about his early life at Cambridge University, and meeting his wife and the family they had together. I haven't looked it up, but according to this story, the kids played a role in helping their dad throughout his life. Very good portrayal of the relationship of him & the wife played by Felicity Jones.
Beginning of the film shows how Hawking was at the beginning of his career. Very good film, and what an amazing man was Hawking.

I think I saw this. I recall the story.

A powerful movie about a man's quest to strive in spite of a life threatening disease, and the trials his family goes through. To Mr. Stephen Hawking, thank you for everything you've done.

Stephen Hawking: There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope.

Q: How do you deal with all the attention?
Hawking: I was stopped recently by a tourist in Cambridge, who asked if I was the real Stephen Hawking. I replied I was not and said the real one was much better looking.

Elaine recited Hawking's writing: "Who are we?"
"Why are we here?"
"If we ever learn this,"
"it will be the ultimate
triumph of human reason,"
"for then we would know
the mind of God."

Q: You have said you do not believe in God. Do you have a philosophy of life that helps you?
Hawking: It is clear that we are just an advanced breed of primates on a minor planet orbiting around a very average star in the outer suburb of one among 100 billion galaxies. But, ever since the dawn of civilization, people have craved for an understanding of the underlying order of the world. There ought to be something very special about the boundary conditions of the universe. And what can be more special than that there is no boundary... There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope.
