“Everyone looks so excited for the first day of school, hugging each other hello and wearing bright, shiny new outfits that practically glow in fog.
“But when my gaze falls on my bed, I freeze, no longer worried what Nolan thinks of the pink or Dr. Hoo or my unicorn collection. Instead, I hold up my hand and point at the checkerboard. Someone has made the next move.”

Comment
Add a CommentThe Haunting of Sunshine Girl is about, appropriately enough, a girl named Sunshine, who has just turned sixteen when her mother is offered a job in Washington State. When they move into their new home, Sunshine immediately senses that things in this house are not as they should be. Unexplainable things begin to occur in the house, as Sunshine's mother, Kat, becomes more and more distant and irritable. At her new school, Sunshine meets Nolan, who believes the stories she tells him are true and begins to help her piece together what is happening in her house. This book is well written. Sunshine's troubles and emotions are easily identifiable even though the events are scary and other-worldly. I believe that young adults are going to love this book based on the original series, which appears on youtube.com.
**spoiler alert** Good book. I love how the author is so dorky. The book was very good to read. I would totally recommend it to YA. In my opinion, it's not for the older crowd
The Haunting Of Sunshine Girl follows the teen protagonist and her supernatural encounters. The main character experiences a combination of: typical teenage life, otherworldly presences, and newly acquired (supernatural) abilities. Throughout these experiences the protagonist attempts to rise above it all and settle into her new home. The otherness of the protagonists universe (distantly) resembles Harry Potter’s in its oddities and quirks. The Haunting Of Sunshine Girl is at times creepy, and I wouldn't recommend it to the easily spooked. However for those brave enough, know that this novel is deliciously terrifying at all the right moments, and that I highly recommend it. This novel is also more than what meets the eye, if one is diligent, and patient enough to read between the lines. I noticed themes of courage, trust, and companionship. This novel is an exhilarating read, and one that I have been happy to repeat many times. Rating: 4/5 stars

I love ghost stories, but I found this one to be a bit slow. It has its interesting parts and the mythology is fascinating. Still, I was hoping for more scares and more action. This is based on the YouTube series of the same name.
Overall, a fun, cold, and interesting ghost story. There will be sequels.
I absolutely loved this book! I would recommend it to anyone loves supernatural mystery books. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I finished it in one sitting :) 5/5 stars for sure!
Really enjoyed this supernatural novel.
A great read for teens who likes ghost stories, without any romance. Set in Washington!
I never would have read this if I had known that it was based on a you tube series. But then I wouldn't have been been surprised at how much I enjoyed this ghost story. And it was a great scary tale with a young girl who hears things in the night that no one else can hear, things that start by raising the hairs on your neck and then get stronger and scarier as the story progresses.
If your looking for a creepy haunted house story, this is your book! Sunshine moves from Sunny Austin Texas to dark and rainy Washington with her mother. Almost immediately after moving in, Sunshine finds that they not alone in their new house. Footsteps, the haunting of a little girl's laughter and the shrill blood curdling sounds of her screams are enough to make Sunshine never want to go to sleep. Now her mother seems to be acting very strange and no one except an odd boy from school believes her about the mysterious happenings in her home. Is Sunshine's house really haunted? Or is she simply going mad?
