Author: Boston- Weatherford has done it again, this book " Voice of Freedom FANNIE LOU HAMER Spirit of The Civil Rights Movement", is a timely book about the Civil RIghts movement and the illustration by Ekua is over the top and detailed. This piece of poetic justice is great for school-aged children ( K-5), and each page is detailed and colorful. The book received several awards, 2016- Caldecott Honor Book, 2016- Robert F. Sibert , 2016- John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award Winner.

Told in poetry, the story of the inspirational Civil Rights leader is moving and humbling. An important read for young readers, but due to the violent abuse that Hamer suffered, it's probably best for 5th grade and up.
