This was probably an accurate depiction of a dinner party at the turn of the 20th century, down to the entertainments and never-ending boring conversation. Honestly, though, I don't understand why a man would become so unmoored and suddenly insecure after learning of his wife's childhood love who passed away. And we only learn about that in the final 15 minutes, after having to endure the tedious detail of the evening. I had the sense it was supposed to be so poignant, but instead it was just a huge eye roll. Holy toledo, don't waste your time.

If any Huston can be considered art, this is it. You can read my full comments here:

Unfortunately, Angelica Huston's presence did not save this movie from me turning it off. I found it completely boring, a real sleeper. I'm sure that others may appreciate this movie far more than me.

Music, politics, religion are disected over a Christmas party hosted by 2 aging aunts and their niece. Angela Huston looks out-of-place, acting wise, in this otherwise, excellently acted Joyce adapted work amidst a more restrained set of performers. Great adaptation into the screen whoever did the screenplay.
