A uniquely funny and moving story about Greg, a high school senior who avoids deep human relationships as a way to safely navigate the social mine field that is teenage life. In fact, he describes his best friend Earl, with whom he makes short-film parodies of classic movies, as being 1more like a co-worker'. But when Greg's mom insists he spends time with Rachel, a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer, Greg discovers just how powerful and important true friendship can b

I loved this quirky and tender movie about a teenager in his senior year trying to navigate high school and life totally detached. He refers to Earl as his business partner rather than his best friend, even though they have been together since primary school. Of course, this all changes when he is forced to get to know Rachel.

I enjoyed this movie. This movie is both for young and old.

I liked the way the characters develop and new things about them are revealed even at the end. This has some parallels with 13 Reasons Why although suitable for a slightly younger audience, far less controversial and obviously shorter. Both are about the value of life, communication, perspectives and loss but this ends on a hopeful note with a grudging acceptance whereas 13 Reasons Why ends like a train wreck you can't stop and regret in the pit of your stomach.

"Overall, I enjoyed this film much more than the book, I actually think it’s better which is ironic considering how the author wrote the screenplay, so maybe he attempted to “fix” certain elements which work but the fact that the story is still about Greg is not very interesting even if Thomas Mann manages to breathe some likability into him..."

This one had me smiling and frowning with every scene. Anyone with young teenagers will recognize many of the character nuances, whether latent or in your face.

This is a very good movie about teens and friendship which adults of all ages should be able to appreciate as well. It is very sad, but there are humorous moments, too. I cried through most of it, and it's rare for a film to hit me that hard. I have not read the book of the same title on which it was based. The movie is rated PG-13 for sexual content, drug material, language and some thematic elements.

Brilliant, relevant, beautiful, and simple. I can't say enough good things about this movie. It's not just a teen movie, we all can learn and enjoy the movie.

Not nearly as good as the book, which was far funnier and more emotionally complicated, but then so few movies do justice to the book, even when (as here) the screenwriter is the author himself.

Beautiful, very funny, profoundly sad.

The story might seem a little cliche', but this presentation of it is not. An unexpectedly good film.
