My first Robinson novel with Inspector Banks, a good old fashioned policeman who respects people even though he dislikes working this case under "Dirty Dick" Burgess, his superior, who manages to antagonize almost everyone. Banks works hard to solve the case and is quite satisfied that he outmanoeuvres Burgess and in the end confronts him with his dirty tricks.
Overall a good read with a satisfying finish in this entertaining police procedural. A well constructed plot that rambles on occasion. I enjoyed the book and will move onto another novel featuring Banks. Recommended.

interesting read, compassionate depiction of social out casts and potential for police brutality before social media hampered unfettered abuse of power by bullies in the police force. Interesting depiction of Banks as he drifts from his marital commitment to Sandra.

Agreed with Dreamstime. To add, better than the prior 'A Dedicated Man', but not as good as the first 'Gallows View'.

A borderline cozy without much bite. Great heroes need great villains who are absent here. The description is way off, implying some intensity that never shows up. Instead it becomes a plodding tale with no heart-thumping page turning.
