The Story of a New Name follows Elena Ferrante's critically acclaimed My Brilliant Friend, featuring Lila and Elena. The two protagonists are now in their twenties, and marriage appears to have imprisoned Lila. Meanwhile, Elena continues her journey of self-discovery. These young women share a complex and evolving bond that brings them close at times while driving them apart at others. Each vacillates between hurtful disregard and profound love for the other. With this complicated and meticulously portrayed friendship at the center of their emotional lives, the two girls mature into women, paying the sometimes cruel price that this passage exacts.

This is a case where there aren't enough stars and or words to acclaim this book with! Elena has fast become one of my favorite Authors with her audacious, unsentimental ability to unmask the personalities of her characters with little fanfare while erupting the senses with her precise, yet fluid Writing style. She leaves the reader gasping for breath and seeking an anchor from the harsh realities of Love, anger, envy, delusion, expectation, and friendship held too loosely. Part Two of the Neopolitan Series is a masterclass in Storytelling. Every page held me spellbound and desperate for more. Love, Love, Love it!!

I LISTENED to the whole series ( 4 books) on audio book- I loved it and was so plesed to find this at the library! I barely have time to read between kids, work and shuttling back and forth, so it was perfect to listen to the books in the car and I couldn't wait to get back to the book.
I spent 2 separate months in Naples in 2 different years. I felt like I knew some of the people, the characters in the story, the places and the intonation of the people. The book was brilliantly written, the characters were real and the stories electrifying. Everyday people made into stories- happy, sad, exhilarating, devastating and thoroughly deep character development. You must read all 4 books back-to-back!
