In 1931, Belgian Georges Simenon wrote his first ten Inspector Maigret novels and his fifth one, “La Tete D’un Homme,” was selected to be the first that was made into a film. It involves a wimpy rich guy, a near-idiot, and a possibly sociopathic guy all being investigated by Maigret for the murder of a woman. Good film noir needs a good villain, and this film has one. All Simenon/Maigret should see this 1932 flick and should be grateful that Criterion has released this nearly forgotten Julien Duvivier flick.
