A series of exquisitely coloured cut pages of increasing size introduce woodland families - bears, deer, rabbits and teeny, tiny mice - who are all beginning to feel really... rather... tired... YAWN! "Dear me," says Great Big Bear, "it must be time for bed!" But Little Bear is certainly not sleepy - he's wide awake! (For now...) With sublime, starry night time scenes and an infectious yawny 'Good night' refrain, Chris Haughton creates a lulling bedtime read, perfect for parents and children to share together. Cut pages of increasing size take the readers through the woods, meeting animals from teeny tiny yawning mice up to a sleepy Great Big Bear - gently introducing young children to the concept of size and scale.

As the sun sinks below the forest treeline, all of the animals are sleepy…except for one wide-awake bear cub. As the little bear pesters the mice, deer, and various other creatures, readers are treated to a series of increasingly drowsy yawns, as well as a sneak peek at how different animals get ready for bed. Using soothing words and careful visual transitions -- the animals are shown from small to large, and the jewel-toned illustrations shift from warm daytime colors into cool, dusky hues -- this ultra-stylized picture book offers an unusual take on the traditional bedtime story.
