A pretty long, self-indulgent slog - I'm not sure it was worth it. Got pretty sick of Penn Cage before it was done.

The third installment of the Natchez Burning trilogy lives up to the rest while maintaining the family driven theme. While not quite as powerful as the first two books, we learn far more about Dr. Tom Cage whose court trial begins, the unconventional defense by Quentin Avery, and the hoops Penn Cage, his son must jump through. Skilled at building momentum, the author uses unexpected character revelations, plot twists, and explosive action balanced with heart felt emotions. The trilogy is unique in many ways, explores the severity of racism in the South especially the cruelty and monster-like behavior of former KKK members. For those who like page turners that explore new territory, this is a worthwhile trilogy in all respects.

In for a penny in for a pound. Book 3. I find the most annoying characters to be Penn Cage and his family who are the good guys. They drive me up the wall and I find myself actually rooting for the bad guys cause at least they are interesting.

So much better than the diabolical, hate-filled book II. This concluding book of a trilogy did a decent job of tying up loose ends, but you could feel the author wanting to continue writing more books with the lead character and his family (bigger with addition of previously unknown members). I wish Iles could be dissuaded from doing that.

After I was able to dot the commas (names) I could hardly put this book down although it's almost 700 pages!

Not having read the first two of this series, took sometime to get to know the personalities. Fantastic book. Hated for it to end. Would definitely give it 5 stars

I waited so long to read this so at the beginning I started it with a chip on my shoulder. I found out from the author that the publisher chose to hold back the book for 2 years. But I also didn't remember all the details of the previous books - but while it seemed slow at the beginning, it suddenly gathered speed and took off. I would say the best of the triology. My favorite. But now, we'll have to wait for the next one - hopefully not 2 years - and I hear that Penn, Serenity and Lincoln are in it!

A doubt slipped in while I was waiting for my turn. What if the author simply fell apart and the story flopped. No disappointment when I finally read the book. EXCELLENT!! The trilogy was well worth reading.

Iles is a master story teller. This is a great book and a part of a great trilogy. He has the ability to describe the south in such a way that you feel you are there.
