This is a well written novel about a white do-gooder who has a sincere desire to help the poor and the downtrodden, but yet secretly wishes for a privileged existence for her daughter and for herself. I found the main character to be very irritating and holier-than-thou. She was overly judgemental of others, even as she struggled to remain true to her own ideals.
very funny. Reminds us how lucky we are to have no negroes in Bellingham. 5 stars
Class is an enjoyable book
I gave myself to page 50 to get into this big. Buts its like one long run on sentence. Really not a novel, more like an essay on an indecisive, self-absorbed woman. For me a book has to have a little more depth. It's all about Karen.
