This volume includes the first comic book appearance of villain Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow, and the first reference to Bat-man's car as the Batmobile. (As an aside, the answer to the question "what color was the original Batmobile?" is red, whether you count the first named reference here or the first car Bat-man drove in an earlier issue.... Both cars were red, I believe)

Also included in this volume are multiple Joker appearances and the return of the diabolical Hugo Strange, and the panel that inspired the cover design of the famous "Death in the Family" Batman story years later....
