Ctrl by SZA is a great album to listen to, and I have heard it several times while walking to the bus stop, and on my way to school. SZA is a great new artist and I think she is very gifted. The album is around an hour long, so it is perfect to listen to because it is the perfect length - great for drives and walks. Some other artists on the album include Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar, and the songs that they are on are personally my favourite because I love their rapping. The style of her music is very nice and unique, and her song do not always sound the exact same, which is something I really appreciate from an artist. I think my favourite song on the album would have to be Love Galore, because I would always listen to it during the summer and it brings back such good memories! Rating: 4/5. @Montgomery of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Sza's CTRL (pronounced control) album is one of the rawest RnB albums to date. After almost a decade of mainstream RnB lost and not celebrated, Sza breaks through with an album chockful of catchy lyrics, rhythmic beats, and soulful melodies. The album itself centres around her life as a black woman, struggles and romantic feelings poured into each song. Her grandmother featured in some of the songs in the album with monologues of life lesson. It's something that stands out and is felt on an emotional level, as Sza doesn't use the usual aesthetic voiceovers from old films or songs. Her using grandmother makes her music purely her own and its something to congratulate and respect for not herding with the masses. Another thing to note on her debut album and why it stands out so much is Sza's vocals. Her voice is very distinct and her original, she makes soulful hums, whispers and echos effortlessly. She's able to make her voice wave along with the music. She doesn't need to hit high notes like Ariana Grande and do insane riffs like Christina Aguilera to make her voice be heard. She's unique in her own right. I believe she's broken barriers for mainstream music and one of the reasons why RnB and rap have climaxed again on the charts. @Moonlightbae of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I decided to check this out after deciding I liked Love Galore, and All the Stars from the Black Panther soundtrack. I didn't have any expectations - I've read that the album was good and I was curious why. I was pleasantly surprised. Some tracks were RnB-ish, others like lo-fi hip hop, but there was also a bundle of songs that just reminded me of 90s young adult angst - like Lisa Loeb or Mazzy Star. As someone whose formative years were during the 90s, this was nice and nostalgic.

SZA's vocals are emotive and bold, and it pairs amazingly with her simmering mix of strings and stripped-down drumwork. "Love Galore" is one of the best songs that's been on the radio in a long time.

Nominated for Best New Artist of 2018, SZA is the first female r&b artist brought into TDE. She brings vulnerability to her soulful lyrics.

An album you will want to listen to on repeat.

Modern R&B, about modern romance.
