A nice companion to the T.V. show for fans who want to know the backstory to the Evil Queen. There's not a lot of new information, but the author does well to capture the innocence of young Regina while planting the seeds for what's to come. She also writes Cora perfectly, and the dynamic between mother and daughter is fascinating, if painful, to see play out. I personally also loved spotting a few mentions/cameos from other fairytale characters, and there's a clever explanation written in to explain Regina's (that is, Lana Parrilla's) scar. A fun read!
