based on the play Blackbird; Rooney Mara is a good actress although what's with the British accent?
Read the play instead

A strange and unsettling movie, but all in all, nicely done.

Did not get past the first 10 minutes. "taboo affair?" Who cares.

A young woman, Una ( Rooney Mara), arrives unexpectedly at an older man's workplace looking for the truth behind the affair (properly described as statutory rape) that occurred between them. The interactions were instigated by Ray (Mendelsohn) when she was a 13-year-old child and he was a next-door neighbor and trusted friend of her father. The facts came to light on the eve of their planned elopement. Convinced by a misunderstanding that Ray had abandoned her, she wandered the streets distraught and bewildered, to be returned home by police, seemingly betrayed. He served four years in jail for his crime, treated as the lowest form of humanity by fellow-inmates. Then changing his name to "Pete", he rose to management level in a large warehouse. She grew up lonely and confused, living with her mother in the same house they lived in before the incident, and in her adulthood, now takes solace in going out for one-night stands and returning home before dawn. She finds where he works through a newspaper photograph and confronts him. The main desire of victims of sexual abuse is truth and justice - I am not certain that Una ever receives either. Because of this and despite excellent acting by Rooney Mara, I cannot recommend this film. Kristi & Abby Tabby

This film put viewers smack in the middle of an uncertain reunion between a 28-year old woman and a child molester. As expected, no joy at all watching flash back of the stigmatized relationship when she was 13. In confronting the past, assessing the “rehabilitated” man and the woman’s personal trauma, viewers were left to decide if THIS particular case of forbidden ‘love’ was a one-off statutory rape transgression and if a pedophilia can be cured? You decide … I am still sorting out the different signals and perspectives.

How did you get here?
- I drove from where I live. Where I still live.
They are sick bastards.
There are patterns of behavior. Cycles ... cycles of abuse. Were you abused as a child?
- For Gods sake! not. That is the exactly same thing that the lawyer asked me. He claimed the court would be more lenient if I had been abused. But I haven't I'm not one of them.
I don't know anything about you except You abused me. Didn't you? Didn't you?
- Yes, but ...
There is no but.
I did the biggest and most stupid mistake of my entire life.
-Did you tell her it was a three months stupid mistake ?
I was talked about, pointed out stared at! I was attacked by your girlfriend! I lost my life. The only thing I did not lose was my name. I had to keep my name.
- I cant be with you.
Am I too old?
