Rocked by tragedy, Annie Marlow returns to the one place she knows she can heal: the cottage by the sea where she spent many happy childhood holidays with her family. There, Annie meets Keaton, a local painter with a big heart; Mellie, the reclusive landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Britt, a teenager with a terrible secret. With them her broken spirit starts to heal. Then events threaten Annie's new idyll. And when the opportunity of a lifetime lands in her lap, she is torn between the excitement of a new journey and the pull of the haven - and the man - she has come to call home. Will she be able to make her new-found happiness last?

I enjoyed meeting these quirky characters and following their journey toward healing. Debbie Macomber writes from the heart.

Review excerpt: "For the first three-quarters of the book, 'Cottage by the Sea' by Debbie Macomber was the gentle, reassuring romance I needed. Near the end I struggled with the treatment of a secondary character who suffers from mental health issues enough that it soured the book a bit for me. I still enjoyed it, but that short section frustrated me enough that it disrupted the overall romance."

Badly written book that romanticizes stalker like behavior and bad communication. Enjoyed some aspects but mostly tolerated it.

Debbie Macomber doesn't disappoint!! Sweet story and worth the time to read. You know what you are going to get but still not disappointed in it.

Those of us who read Debbie Macomber always know what we're going to get when we first open the cover of her books, but we don't ever anticipate how wonderfully we are going to get what we know to expect.

The premise of 'Cottage by the Sea' started with a true, horrific and difficult topic, especially to those of us in the Seattle area, the 2014 Oso tragedy and its reverberating effects. I applaud Debbie for tackling it, and tackling it with grace and gentleness. It could not have been easy, just as it was not easy to be reminded of it for those of us so near.

'Cottage by the Sea' is the story of tender hearts guarding themselves fiercely. You will have tears.

5 stars.
