Appointed by her uncle as successor, she agrees to head up the Corsican Mafia. The Clan, Part 1 of 2:

Ange-Marie Paoli. The clan's founder. The old lion no longer bites but he still has his teeth.
-You know them well.
Everyone knows everyone else here. She's the niece (Sandra Paoli.) A lawyer. Brilliant. More or less in the pay of the victim. The only half-decent one there.
François Paoli, gambling, racketeering, arms and drug smuggling. The lot. Every angle covered. Over the past few months, he's built up a team of specialists in every domain, including murder.
-It would seem he's met his match.
Maybe. His great strength was to adapt to the downturn in the 80s. He came back to the island, and reinvested in activities that were perfectly legal. I have to tell you something. I'm not overly delighted at having to work with you.
-Because I'm a woman?
No, not at all. I don't see why our island's little problems interest the DEA.
-International drug smuggling isn't just this island's little problem, commissaire.
The wounded tigress. Caterina Paoli, the widow.

The Clan, Part 2 of 2:

Jean-Michel Paoli. The nephew. A brilliant right-hand man, a man of action. A bit dodgy psychologically, and without scruples.
Marie-Luce Paoli. Jean-Michel's docile wife.
Gilles Sperandei. Known as Gio. If he's there, it means it's open season.
And him Martial Santoni. Jean-Michel's own right-hand man.

Why don't we just stop? Manage what we have?
-Stop in mid-battle? The others won't stop. If no one takes over, the clan's finished. François dealt you the cards. It's up to you to play them.
What if I can't?
-If you can't, then we're all dead. Right. You all know Françoishas gone. We need someone in command. Someone who knows what to do, and when. Someone who can take the punches, and fight back. François was that sort of man.

Diamonds are not indestructible:

Do you know the composition of a diamond? It's 100% carbon. Carbon burns very quickly. And fiercely. The cans you can see in that 4x4 are full of petrol. There is also a detonation device. One call from this phone and it all explodes. Boom. The metal will melt, and the diamonds will burn.
(True, If you heat a diamond to about 763° Celsius (1405° Fahrenheit), it will turn to Carbon dioxide, a gas/vapor.)

A bit like “Den of Thieves”:

The depot is here, right in the town centre. The main entrance is operated electronically, as are the other exits. OK? Everything is controlled by a computer program. The theory is simple. Listen closely. You can't get out because it's impossible to get in. Next to this, Fort Knox is a joke.
-If that's how it is, what are we doing here?
Give it a rest! We ransack Fort Knox! We get in, take the money and go. We leave with 50 million euros, used notes, ready to be recycled. No marked wads, no numbered notes. Nothing but bags! Mountains of bags! This isn't a robbery. It's a removal job. … Once we get in, there's only one way to get out. Explosives and assault rifles.

Paoli, I won't let you turn this island into a shooting range.

Jean-Michel Last night I learnt two things. The first is how it feels to be in the hands of people like that. A bullet in the head is one thing. What they wanted to do first is another. Something vile For a moment, my life was in their hands. And I hated that. When I shot them, I could feel death coursing through my veins. Like it was my inheritance. From François. I found the darkness in myself and hated myself for it. But it was that darkness that kept me alive.

You should see the boss about that.
-No. I don't deal with women.

You know those milk-producing cows that qualify you for EU subsidies. As soon as certain owners have the payments in their pockets, they let them roam free. The cows just wander the countryside. They're as skinny as rakes!

You can sleep in peace, you're protected.
-Bodyguards didn't stop François from being killed.
The Pope has bodyguards.
- Do you think he enjoys it?
The Pope? When he accepted the job, he accepted the bodyguards. Perhaps my little sister thinks she's better than the Pope?

Humiliating him like that is worse than death. It's not an insult a man can forget. One day, you'll have to kill him. Or he'll kill you.
===
I didn't know.
-You've taken on this role. In this role, you have to know everything.

A female clan leader is like a homosexual. It's not natural.
-Nature says, "Screw you". Things are changing. The world is changing, everything changes.

You haven't lost anything yet, and neither has your son.
-My son? How much?
Sit down, Mr. Livardi. 20,000 euros paid to the victim. The cost of the surgery she needs.
-OK.
And you have to hire Marie-Luce Paoli as a partner.
-This is grotesque! You're going too far! Accepting a Paoli means leaving ourselves open to all your scams. Fraudulent use of corporate property, embezzlement, fixing markets You think I'll accept this?

The luxury hotel our town has been crying out for. Five-star, swimming pool, 600 rooms, squash court, water therapy, international conference centre Marina. Direct access to the beach. And to top it all off, the Casino this part of Corsica lacks.

In town, right now, a man I don't know just died.
-On this earth, right now, thousands of men you don't know are going to die. You don't believe in God?
No.
- Neither do I. But when I was young the village priest talked about a God of love and compassion. … He was thin as a rake. But his voice thundered around the church. He didn't eat a lot. He gave it all to the poor… One winter night, he was found dead. He was frozen stiff in the snow, with his bicycle. He was all stiff, with his mouth wide open, and icicles in his beard. The kids left a bottle outside the church for him. It was red wine with 90% alcohol in it. That morning, riding back on his creaky bicycle I knew that his God of love and compassion He didn't exist.

I found that Mafiosa started off with passion & ended with a whimper. The female lead was not credible in my opinion. She din't appear tough enough. The qualithy of script writing suddenly declined. I got bored & didn't finish it.

Just finished Season 1 and really enjoyed it. It is a complex, exciting, and intriguing study of the machinations of a gangster family. Being set in Corsica embellished the story even more. Be warned - it is very violent.

I watched two episodes and gave up. It's all a bit facile and soapy. I found the central character's brother interesting and Thierry Neuvic (playing him) is a decent actor but the protagonist--played by Helene Fillieres'-- oscillates between frozen faced or flirty without much in between. When a shipment of priceless jewels was transported to a waiting executive jet with heavy security but then left with no one guarding it but the pilots, I gave up on the plot too.
There have been a number of seasons, so someone likes it, but then the same goes for lots of ho-hum shows.

2006-2014 Mafiosa (TV Series) with a woman as the head of the Corsica mafia clan. Besides the usual gang wars, police corruption, ballot-box stuffing, labor strike, human/drug/arms trafficking, jewel heist, insurance fraud etc., a few of the crimes in this series were quite original back in 2006, including robbing a money depot of millions of used notes, like the Gerard Butle's 2018 "Den of Thieves" and that "Diamonds are far from indestructible." (See both topics in "Quotes.") Another rare program with a woman at the helm of an organization was Maggie Gyllenhaal's 2014 series "The Honourable Woman."

Per wiki: According to several media sources, the character Sandra is an adaptation of the current life of the Corsican widow Sandra Casanova-Germani whose brother Jean-Luc Germani is the most wanted man in France. The series contains violence and political schemes.
