I thought the story worked on more of "non- violence" then the intense blood splattering that all the previous viewers were looking forward to. Its a modern version of the Antiqued gangsters …"bugsy melone, Alcapone..the luster & the code" unlike the current blue & reds; drive by shooters. If you can relate to the current political scene it may be a reflection of the gangster hood.....think think...worth viewing

The history behind John Gottti was interesting. The movie was of very poor quality. The lips would move first before you heard the voice. I've seen much better gangster movies. This definitely wasn't one of them.😣😣😣😣😣

As a huge fan of Scorsese films, the Godfather movies, and John Travolta in general, I was interested in seeing this spin on the tale of the infamous mafia kingpin. I thought John Travolta did a pretty good job of embodying the arrogant, ruthless John Gotti, and the supporting cast were fine as well. The movie did not get off to a good start; I felt that the jumping back and forth across time periods and including actual footage of the real persons made it confusing. Once the narrative settled down to more of a straight storyline it became quite engrossing. I thought they did a good job of staying true to known facts. Overall I felt it was definitely trying to ape "GoodFellas," with the voiceover of the lead character as narration, frequent (and I thought effective) use of era-appropriate rock music to punctuate key moments, and (excessive) lingering shots of freshly-shot-up bodies. It wasn't "The Godfather" but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.

bad and boring

Did anyone ever actually see this movie?

I was concerned in saying that this was one of the boring mob movies that I have watched. Could have used the time better in sleeping. I was also disappointed in John's acting. This movie did not flatter him at all. What ever happen to the John that acted the roles in Greece and Staying Alive? Use your time wisely and do not watch this movie. Having your wisdom teeth pulled would be better than watching this movie. At least with your wisdoms you can get legally drugged up.

It wasn't good nor the worst I've seen. Spent a lot of time with the volume control due to the loud & often irritating music. Confusing, choppy, over acted at times, and hard to understand what was being said; again, with the loud music. Got to the point just wanted it to end.

It was an OK movie, nothing special. Other movies on the same topic were much better. What it was all about is the RICO Act that came into law during the 60's. This was a big deal because if you were involved in gang activities and you were breaking the law you were no longer handled locally. The FBI went after you and you were tried by Federal Judge and in a Federal court. Then received a longer sentences and spent time in a Federal Jail. It was designed to break up the power and influence of the gangs and it worked. What was really threatening to the gangsters was they may be involved in only one area of crime like gambling or prostitution but if you were arrested under the RICO Act the indictment would include everything that the gang was involved in. Often including crimes they had nothing to do with. I know a guy locally that got involved with a gang when he was in his 20's and went to a federal prison for a number of crimes he had nothing to do with. The FBI went after the gang and got everyone associated with the organization. He spent 6 years in prison, made the most of it and when he came out turned his life around, was successful and is well liked in the community. He is now an 80 year old Italian gentlemen and as the gangsters would say "a stand up guy".

Travolta is still on the downward slide which began with SWORDFISH. A much better film ,which came and went without much notice being given to it, is RUBY, which starred Danny Aiello. what's next---JOE BANANAS--?
