As a hetero male I was compelled to fast-forward through pretty much all of the, man-on-man action!...

However, as a fan of much of Elton John's early ('70s) music, I was massively entertained and was motivated to replay a lot of the magical musical moments (i.e. 'Pinball Wizard'!)...

Taron Egerton does an absolutely awesome job bring Elton John to life!...

The movie is good with great acting & music.

This is a musical. The actors/actresses sing and dance for most scenes of the movie.
I wish that for some parts of the movie, the music/song can just stay in the background and the actors can just act out the parts without the singing dialogues. Just my personal preference : )

An unfavourable look at Elton John's earlier life.
In this case, a stereotypical celebrity ego that couldn't handle fame and fortune, filled with cliches of too little parental love and too much drugs and alcohol.
The movie's musical style sort of dilutes his songs to fit with the storytelling.

I was looking forward to watching this movie, as I am a Elton John fan. The movie was good, but I thought it would give a more overview of his life, but instead its main focus was Elton's drug, alcohol abuse journey. I was not expecting it to be a sort of musical movie (with singing dialogue type scenes), but that was a pleasant surprise, since the characters were singing Elton John songs. I thought Taron Egerton did an amazing job as Elton John.

I thought it would have been better didn’t enjoy it. It was dry not like the movie with Matt Dameon abt Elton John.
It dragged on wasn’t very entertaining. Disappointed.
The music was good though.

This was a really good musical bio pic. Taron Egerton was really outstanding as Elton John. The music was sensational. The story was fascinating. I didn't find Elton John a particularly likeable person, but the movie certainly provides more insight into his life. The period details and costumes were really well done. Overall it was a really good entertaining film with top notch music.

Elton John's songs are part of the soundtrack of my life, so watching the musical biography about his early days in England as child prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his rise to fame and entering rehab is long overdue. I didn't know much about his life, so it was fascinating to learn how he started in show business and his long-term collaboration and friendship with lyricist, Bernie Taupin. Taron Egerton was superbly cast as Elton John. Normally when watching a biographical movie, I keep nitpicking at the casting choice for the main character, but Taron was spot on. He looks like a young Elton and he sang all 20 of the movie's songs. This guy is crazy talented and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor- Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance. I loved the approach director Dexter Fletcher took with the film. It starts out with Elton John entering an addiction rehab session in a flamboyant devil costume and he proceeds to tell the group about his life through flashbacks. Elton's songs are sprinkled throughout the film in perfectly paired scenes that match the mood of the lyrics. Some of my favorite Elton John songs are included in the film: I want Love, Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Tiny Dancer, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me. Elton's former manager and lover, John Reid (Richard Madden) is the worst! I'm glad Elton dumped him and eventually found David Furnish. Elton had a strained relationship with his cold mother, Sheila Eilleen (Bryce Dallas Howard) and abandoned by his father. Elton broke my heart with his journey to find true love and self-acceptance. The costumes were so colorful and over-the-top. I can't recommend this movie enough if you rock out to Elton John CDs. 5 stars!

I think the actors were miscast for this musical, as none of them was a strong vocalist. Egerton's vocals were passable, but the vocals of some of the supporting cast were actually rather weak. Still, this was an enjoyable movie.

I didn't expect to like this movie at all. In fact, I hesitated to even watch it. However, curiosity got the best of me. If I had to sum up "Rocketman" in one word it would be "weird". I sort of knew this was a musical, but I didn't expect the actors and actresses to suddenly break out in song. That startled me a bit and had me rolling my eyes. Thankfully, the middle part of the movie is more dramatic and avoids that ridiculousness. I almost turned this off, but I'm glad I kept watching. I gave it three stars mainly because the lead actor was excellent and I liked that there were a lot of unknowns in this. The movie was a bit confusing when it came to Elton's love life, but it wasn't so much that I couldn't follow what was going on. That being said, if you are uncomfortable with same sex kissing or anything else, you will hate this because there is a lot of of it. Honestly, it makes me uncomfortable to watch (although I have nothing against it personally), but I didn't really mind it too much after a while. I think it was necessary to show because it's so much a part of Elton's life. It was interesting to learn how he came up with his famous stage name and the history behind the development of his songs. Overall, I wouldn't say this is a great movie unless you're a huge Elton John fan, but the music is great and I think it speaks a lot for the movie to say that he had a hand in producing it. The main actor had a great voice and is very talented. I think this movie could have been a little longer to fill in some of the blanks, but it's worth a watch, if only for the music. The ending credits feature Elton and made me smile.

Streets Of Laredo lyrics duet by Taron Egerton & Jamie Bell

As I walked out in the streets of Laredo
As I walked out in Laredo one day
I saw a young cowboy, wrapped all in white linen
Wrapped in white linen, as cold as the clay
Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
Sing the Death March as you carry me along
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy, I know I've done wrong
I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy
These words he did say as I boldly walked by
Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story
Got shot in the breast and I know I must die
Go fetch me some water, a cool cup of water
To cool my parched lips, then the poor cowboy said
Before I returned, his spirit had left him
Had gone to his Maker, the cowboy was dead
Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
Sing the Death March as you carry me along
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy, I know I've done wrong

26 quotes in IMDb already, thank you! The most moving ones are those between Elton and Bernie:

Bernie Taupin: I love you, man. I do, but... not in that way.
Elton John: Thank you, Bernie.
Bernie Taupin: You're my brother.
Elton John: Bernie. I never told you how much I need you.
Bernie Taupin: No, no, no. I love you, man. Always have, always will. You write songs that millions of people love. And that's what's important. You just need to remember who you are, and be okay with it.

It scared me now when Elton said that was a test out loud. I see he has a Puma sweater. When I saw a lady I thought it was his mom but it was his grandma. In theaters I heard now here I heard Nan. Then he imagined his mom. I thought John really came but at first he didn't. He was imagining them along with his mom and dad and Bernie. It made me cry when he hugged the child version of himself. I didn't see a lady with paint on her butt.
