Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about kindness, love, and forgiveness from America2s most beloved neighbor.

From the 1960's thru 1970's, MISTER "fred" ROGERS; was impeccable in teaching children how to be kind to each other (and was always RATING - G)
/
This Adult UPDATED version of "A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD" (was changed to RATING: PG) - in 2020 (for brief fight and mild language).
Main theme of 2020 version is TOM HANKS (as MISTER "fred" ROGERS), talking about a close friend (LLOYD VOGEL) - spoken by British Actor: Matthew Rhys (struggling with his Newspaper Writing and complications with his Lloyd's father).
/
The first 5minutes is in STANDARD VIEW and I did not see FRED ROGERS until 14min 5secs portion.
As TOM HANKS was imitating Fred Rogers; it alway went back to STANDARD VIEW (as if it was original FRED ROGERS speaking).
/
[IN MY OPINION] - I enjoyed most of the 1hr 49min DVD movie and the Bonus Features were very helpful into remembering what it was like as a child; showing original television (set design and props) that I remembered.
{My Review of when I saw this DVD in OCTOBER 2020 = 4-STARS rating}

What a movie! Fictional, but the production included so many of Fred Roger's family and friends that I feel it must be an accurate depiction. His wife is quoted as saying "Don't call him a Saint. That means others couldn't be like him. He worked hard to be caring and loving and helping. Anyone could do it." Watch the director's extras on the DVD. It really adds depth to the movie that would otherwise be overlooked.

This was about a man called 'Lloyd', not much about 'Mr. Rogers'. I wanted to know about the 'man' behind the celebrated show, his family, his history and instead the movie centers around a writer for 'Esquire'. Waiting to get past Lloyd wasn't going to happen. Hanks did a scatter-brain, frustrating ditty of Mr. Rogers.

Very uplifting movie for our current times. Even though you may think you know about Mr Rogers this movie will give you fresh perspective and the story is handled incredibly well. Tom Hanks shines again. Loved it.

Watch the documentary about Mr. Rogers by the same name. Finally understood why, when my sons were young, they preferred his show to Sesame Street.

It is a bit slow but very nice film. We, who remember Mr. Rogers, will love it.

So how does it feel to be married to a living saint?
-You know, I'm not fond of that term. If you think of him as a saint, then his way of being is unattainable. You know, he works at it all the time. It's a practice. He's not a perfect person. He has a temper. He chooses how he responds to that anger.
That must take a lot of effort.
-Well, yeah, he... He does things every day that help to ground him. Reads Scripture, swims laps, prays for people by name. Writes letters, hundreds of them. He's been doing that since I met him.
===
So... you've covered some heavy stuff, uh, especially for a show aimed at children.
-Oh, I'm glad you've had the chance to view the program. Death, divorce, war. It gets dark.
===
You know, death is something many of us are uncomfortable speaking about. But to die is to be human. And anything human is mentionable. Anything mentionable is manageable. Anything mentionable is manageable.
