Palpatine is back? this saga totally defeats the purpose of the first two sagas. Darth Vader was supposed to bring balance to the force but instead he turns to the dark side, but in the end turns back to the good side destroys the sith, so he completed was what he was supposed to do... except he didn't because, he was just a stone in Palpatine's path and now Palpatine just made a huge army. And Rey is the girl that had everything placed in her lap. the effect were pretty good but I would give this negative 5 stars if I could Why not just get rid of the first two sagas if your going to do this. This is a horrible movie not suggested. I completely agree with

This movie was OK overall. I thought Rey was a wonderful heroine and Daisy Ridley was outstanding. Adam Driver was excellent at playing the conflicted Kylo Ren. The movie was exciting and entertaining. But overall it didn't feel particularly new or fresh. There were so many scenes and plot points that seemed to just repeat what we had already seen in other films. I thought it was good, but not great.

I honestly was not expecting it be that heavy or so deep. Contrary to what has been reported Abrams didn’t throw Johnson’s TLJ under the bus. He took concepts that Johnson used and built on them and fleshed them out. There was fan service in the film and box checking but none of it came across as forced. It’s been a long, long, long time that I have been able to go to a film and not just keep checking my watch wondering when they will get to the point.
I was partly afraid that Disney would give into a bunch of vocal whiners who are mad that their personal fan fiction wasn’t portrayed on screen. But they stayed to the spirit of good storytelling and not only gave us a cracking good film, characters I found interesting but plenty of food for thought.

Nice to see that Abrams listened to the good criticism (ie. TFA being little more than a re-tread). And ignored some of the more ridiculous bashing of TLJ. Like one reviewer said, Abrams didn’t break the box like Johnson. But he did try something new and couched the story in reality. And didn’t make it a facile cartoon.
The film is supposed to cap of the end of the Skywalker saga. But to me it is the end of a journey for the main characters, Rey, Finn, Poe and of course Kylo. Make no mistake about it, this is Rey and Kylo’s story. Much of the narrative comes from choices and made by those two. And it is a character driven film rather than an action driven film

I loved the film overall. But I would be a lying fan girl if I can’t say that my heart did not beat with pride at watching Daisy Ridley as Rey. She’s grown so much over the past 3 films. And just cements the fact why I consider her my top 5 favourite heroines.

She’s gone from plucky girl who wanted to take down bad guys. To a mature and confident young woman who has found purpose in service to others. She’s grown into herself and become confident in her own skin. That is a true human being. The reveal about her lineage and the impact that it has on her is just heart breaking to watch. Her character growth and the tough choices she has to make. Including facing and over coming her deepest desires & fears.

This was my all-time favorite Star Wars movie, and I have seen all nine, plus Solo.

BEEEEEEEEENNNNN!!!!!!!!!! :(
The only thing I didn't like about this was that Rey chose the name Skywalker, even after Leia told her to embrace who she was.

The last & most disappointing film in the 9 part Skywalker saga, with established themes characters & plot points marginalized or abandoned altogether. Written & directed by hacks, it's an embarrassment to the legacy George Lucas created.

Almost better to pretend the series ended with The Last Jedi.

Terrible pacing, the thing was obviously chopped up and hastily completed re-shoots (wig, tattoos left uncovered.) Least favorite of all SW movies. Definitely went back to more child oriented like the OT however with a few points that would make adults cringe. Chock full of stereotypes. It's the American Mono-myth.

Ok, so PALPATINE IS ALIVE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Major plot hole. Possibly the biggest ever. We all saw Palpatine fall into the ENERGY REACTOR in the Death Star (#2) , so how is he alive!?!? They would have to: Make him a new body, get his brain (ew) and cryogenically freeze his brain. So, therefore, he's dead. Another plot hole: So Rey DIES then Kylo Ren brings her BACK TO LIFE which is not possible! And that is just a few things wrong with this movie. How did they put the power of a Death Star into a Imperial star destroyer. Then, they rise out of the ground. WHAT

This movie is just a cinematic failure! Where to start, with Rey, she's a "Mary Sue" things come way too easily to her. And of course, the Palpatine being alive, yeah Kathleen "the idiot"Kennedy decide to use E.U. for the whole "Palpatine that died on the second Death Star" was a freaking clone, I read the Dark Empire trilogy which is a classic, and of course, the whole movie just killed Star Wars.

The saving graces here are the film's technical excellence (visual and sound) and Rey's hard journey to her destiny.
However, true to past form, the filmmakers have opted to use the same general script and characters once again: a Skywalker, a Vader, a Death Star, an Emperor, and of course the merry band of bowling pins Storm Troopers.

More than 80 quotes are posted in IMDb including the opening crawl as a refresher of its prequels, thanks to the contributors:

The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE.

GENERAL LEIA ORGANA dispatches secret agents to gather intelligence, while REY, the last hope of the Jedi, trains for battle against the diabolical FIRST ORDER.

Meanwhile, Supreme Leader KYLO REN rages in search of the phantom Emperor, determined to destroy any threat to his power... .
