Nothing healing or Medicine healing about this song. the lyrics are not only bad but the signing sucks! they talk about war, people dying etc.... Most of the music on this cd is negative. but again if it was positive, I still would not listen to this music again because her singing is worst than a lame street performer. signing voice is worst than a whining cat.
I really enjoyed this release, but a word of warning, this is a protest record, there is no love ballads or soft issue songs, Buffy has and will always be railing against the wrongs in society.
My wife and daughter found her high voice a bit grating,I had no issue with that (what are indigenous singers supposed to sound like?),it adds a certain urgency and edge to the songs.
I had the great fortune to see her and her knockout band perform this material recently, and it really hits home in that context,I was singing along to these songs all the way home.If you have a chance to see her live, do so, you will not be disappointed, we need more 'protest singers' like Buffy more now than we can imagine.
2 new songs and all the rest are her usual recycled old songs. Born in Canada, She has spent most of her life U.S. based, living in Hawaii with her German boyfriend. She is always one step behind the movements in Canada, but is catching up with the help of Canadian Indigenous artists. It is a shame she doesn't promote them more. I would give this CD a pass and listen to Power in the Blood or Coincidence and Likely Stories to really hear her power house voice and showcase her great writing abilities. For a woman who hasn't lived in Canada since she was a baby, she is always seen as the voice of Indigenous Canada, and it is her main touring audience and awards.
