A Place Inside of Me is a beautiful and timely poem about emotions. The images depict the range of emotions that a young, African-American boy is experiencing as he goes through his day. He feels a range of emotions from joy to sorrow in the span of the poem.

This would be an excellent book to share with an early elementary audience to help them process their emotions and deal with difficult racial situations. It celebrates the accomplishments of African-Americans and illustrates how hard it is to process the violence against them that is occurring in American today. As a young person, it is especially tough to process these events.

This would be a good book to spark a conversation about racial justice with an elementary aged kid.
