"Astronauts Elma York, Nicole Wargin and Myrtle Lindholm continue to forge new paths for women astronauts as they work to achieve the International Aerospace Coalition's goal of getting as many people as possible off Earth before it becomes uninhabitable." -- Provided by publisher.
Elma York is on her way to Mars, but the Moon colony is still being established. Fellow Lady Astronaut Nicole Wargin is thrilled to be one of those pioneer settlers, using her considerable flight and political skills to keep the program on track. But she is less happy that her husband, the Governor of Kansas, is considering a run for President. The climate disaster of the Meteor strike becomes clear as food shortages occur. Riots and sabotage plague the space program. The IAC's goal of getting as many people as possible off Earth before it becomes uninhabitable is being threatened. -- adapted from jacket

I've enjoyed the other entries in this series a great deal, but having a new lead for this one was completely refreshing. Nicole is a great character, smart and competent. It's nice to have a heroine that's older and knows her worth. And there were SO MANY THINGS that happened in this book, between the ongoing issues on Earth, and then the lunar colony. Absolutely brilliant and worth your time.

This book was the most 2020 book I've read (in a good way), even though it's set on in the moon 50 years ago, and it was written before the epidemic even started! There's clearly a staggering amount of research that made it all so believable and cool (though Among Us was never mentioned lol). Touching on big societal issues as they relate to everything from race to body image, AND having lovely characters that have the most mind-bending, brilliant interactions... All I can say without spoilers is wowowowow keep up the good work!!!

Review excerpt: "One thing I enjoyed about this story is that Nicole isn’t superhuman. She’s extremely intelligent, but complains that her thoughts are fuzzy, or that she knows there’s a connection she’s missing, or that she does something inefficient, when she’s injured, or flooded with adrenaline, or lacking food. I also love the fact that Nicole is fifty years old. It’s so rare to have a heroine who is on the other side of middle aged, something which gives Nicole a mature perspective on her marriage, friendships, and career. Nicole is intelligent, fit, and capable in every way, but she’s relatable because she’s not perfect or superhuman."
