Directed by John Cromwell in 1944 loosely based on the 1943 novel of the same name by Margaret Buell Wilder, this American war-time drama depicts the happiness, grief and tragedy about the American home front during World War II.
Although it seems like a typical melodrama, the film moves my heart at times.

Potentially good cast, yet sappy overbearing soundtrack and bad acting made it a real drag.

A great movie about how everyone was affected during WWII, whether you were in the States or abroad. The story shows the emotions and all of the challenges that were faced not just because you had a family member active in service but all the attitudes and judgments people made without knowing the sacrifice that was being done at home. Great acting and an engaging movie.

This 3-hour MGM production from 1944 tells the story of how WW2 affected those who were living back in the USA at the time when all of the trouble was happening over in Europe.

"Since You Went Away" focuses its story-line in on the trials and tribulations of the Hilton Family which consisted of single mother, Anne, and her 2 teenage daughters.

This film won an Academy Award in the category of "Best Music".

Filmed in b&w - 1944's "Since You Went Away" is now the second WW2 picture I've recently seen whose story was being told from the perspective of those who were experiencing all of the drama from the "home-front".

This 3-hour production (That's right! - 3 hours) was clearly a "Chick Flick" that was not only packed solid with oodles of sentimentality, but it also featured plenty of serious flag-waving (thrown into the mix for good measure), as well.

This $2.5 million "MGM" presentation tells its wartime melodramatics through the teary eyes of single mother, Anne Hilton, and her 2 teenage daughters, Jane and Brig (played by Jennifer Jones and Shirley Temple).

VERY GOOD 1944 movie, a bit lengthy, with main focus being family home life after male member 'went away' during WWII. Fine production, acting, and more. Glad I watched it.

While this movie contains a not so subtle touch of obligatory WW-II era propaganda, as far as melodramas go, this belongs at the top of anyone's list.

A beautiful movie, with scenes strung together like gems on a necklace. Claudette Colbert heads an amazing cast. Make sure to have Kleenix handy!

Oh my goodness I LOVE THIS
WWII MOVIE! Shirley Temple at about- mmmm- 15 maybe. Claudette Colbert's acting is suberb, and little known Jennifer Jones plays wonderfully in this show! The one actor, (I think his name is Monty Woolley), is the BEST supporting actor! A must watch!
